cannot install Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinH

Question: Removed lots of spyware and bad guys from an older Compaq running XP Pro. Tried several times to install Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.0 and it fails both as an automatic update and from the MS site. OS is Service Pack 1, cannot get SP2 to install as well.

michael, if the o/s won't validate, getting legal is the only way you will solve that. If you feel the o/s is legal and have a valid key, it may just be because of hardware changes that it's not validating. Might be worth a call to Microsoft to resolve it.
