SVCHOST peaks processor for 2-3 minutes after login

Question: I have an XP Pro machine all the latest MS updates and Symantec AV Corp, latest defs, and its stand alone, no domain connection. 2.4 ghz P4 + 512 RAM.

After I login, (machine could have booted 20 minutes prior), an svchost process peaks the CPU and about 100mb ram, it takes 2-3 minutes before it goes to 0 and the ram useage levels off around 34mb.

I dont have any other special programs loading at bootup, and I've turned off all unneeded services.

Any ideas as to how I can track this down? Isn't there a program that tracks the logon process down to the file level?
