I have recently uninstalled Norton Systemworks from my PC. The problem is that whenever I now delete a file or folder, I am not asked if I want to send it to the Recycle Bin any longer, just if I want to remove it. Nothing deleted goes to the recycle bin.

I have removed the RECYCLER folder, firstly by this in a command line:

rd /s c:\recycler

Then, when that didn't resolve the problem, by this at a cmd prompt in Safe Mode:

attrib -s -h recycler
del recycler

When I reboot after either of these, the RECYCLER folder is recreated, but the problem remains - still nothing deleted goes to the recycle bin

Can anyone suggest what I can do further, short of running a repair of XP? Thanks.

Right click on your recycle bin on your desktop and select properties.
Do you have a check in "Do not move files to the recycle bin", if so, take it out.
Check all the tabs
