Default Print Spooler running..... Error message says it isn't. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!

I'm having this issue on 3 of the PC's in my workgroup. All the PC's are running XP Pro SP2. I'm sharing a printer from one of them and I need to access it from 5 others. On three of them I'm now getting the same message: "Cannot access the printer properties. Print spooler service is not running.

OK so I check the services and it is running. I checked RPC service a swell. It also is running. I’ve checked tin the registry for dependency. That checks out. I've turned both services off, changed startup to manual, rebooted, turned things back on.......... I still get the same message. I've run sfc........... I even did a repair install on one of them to see if that would fix it. No joy.

The condition appears to be the same on all 3 machines. I've run complete virus and spyware scans and everything is clean.

I hope someone has some good ideas. I'll be very grateful for a solution.

To quote from the link given below:

If the Print Spooler service fails when printing, when Windows starts or it can not be restarted, the usual reason is that one or more printer drivers is defective.

This page has some very good advice on how to clean up installed printer drivers so that you can reinstall the printer and hopefully correct your problem:
