I have found other references on this forum where an upgrade version was used to set up the PC from scratch so despite the general consensus that you need a previous version of Windows present in order to use the upgrade, there is anecdotal evidence that would indicate exceptions to this rule. Microsoft says that it is not possible, but I believe this was the disk I used to set up this system from scratch a couple years ago. I am willing to purchase the full version but not until I am satisfied that it is necessary to spend the money. |

Now, if you do not have a cd with Win98 install on it, then you will not be able to use your XP Home Upgrade CD. The Upgrade Install Needs to verify you have a copy of MS OS. If you do not have this cd, you could probably purchase one very quickly on Ebay for a few bucks. Or maybe a friend has an old copy lying around they are not using on any machines anymore. Get creative, you simply need the disk for a very quick verification. You do not need to install Win 98 or ME. You just need to show the upgrade cd that you have the disk. |
