terminal service serivice is not available under windows xp

Ive been strugggling with windows XP's terminal services service. I need to have it running because windows desktop search 3.0 wants that, but i had the surprise that the terminal services service is not running s a service on my pc, and also not visible on in the services overview. i've already treid the following with (no succes)

a) run: regsvr32 remotepg.dll (runs, no errors reported)
run: C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost -k DComLaunch (to force the terminal services service to start) --> no success....

b) reinstall the terminal services client 6.0 (MSRDPCLI.EXE) -> fault: "the remote destop is not ... your operating system already has a build in version"

c) reinstall servicepack 2 windows --> did't help.

anyone any idea how to fix this without re-installing XP ?

The following REG file restores missing "Terminal Services" service (for Windows XP SP2)

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/termservice.reg

Download and save it to Desktop.
Right-click the file and choose "Merge"
Restart Windows and see if the Terminal Service entry is restored and the service is started
