Hello, I purchased a new Gateway MT6821 laptop a few days ago and I need to remove Vista and load XP Pro. I thought it would be simple install but ran into problems because XP won't recognize my SATA drive. I've spent 2 days researching this and what I understand so far is that I need to have the driver from the motherboard mfgr on a floppy, and then hit F6 during setup and proceed. So far, here is what I've done. I bought a usb floppy. I've downloaded the following driver. IntelĀ® Matrix Storage ManagerĀ*Floppy Configuration Utility - IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager [F6FLPY32.ZIP] I've got the driver now on a floppy disk. (I'm assuming this is the right driver) I've ran XP setup and hit F6, and it gives me four choices. Intel (R) 8280HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH8R) Intel (R) 8280HR/HH/HO SATA ACHI Controller (Desktop ICH8R) Intel (R) 631xESB/632/ESB SATA RAID Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2 Intel (R) 631xESB/632/ESB ACHI RAID Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2 I've tried all four choices and it still says "Setup did not find any hard drives on your system" Some have suggested changing the hard drive recognition in the BIOS but the BIOS on this machine doesn't allow anything to be changed with regards to the hard drive. This particular BIOS is very limited. Here is a link to the exact specs of my machine Gateway Support - WD Specifications Any help would be appreciated. I'm getting farter and farter behind in my work.. |
