Default Blue Screen on Repair Install Windows XP Professional Stop message disappears quickly

Repair install of windows xp professional SP2 fails with a blue screen after the windows logo, but the message disappears before I can read it. It is a stop message and I have removed everything except teh mouse keyboard and graphics card. This is a new ASUS P5LD2 SE with an intel pentium 4 3.0 gHz with 1024 meg RAM (new 512 meg ddr II 667 sticks) This is a new mobo and chip as I could not get the original system to boot and figured I would try to change each component to try and overcome the boot failure. I am trying to analyse the message on the blue screen, but it disappears before I can read it.

You can turn off the automatic reboot on error option without even getting into Windows if you can get into what is called the Advanced Options Menu: as your computer boots up (before you get to the Windows logo), keep pressing and releasing the F8 function key (don't just hold it down as you are likely to get a "stuck key error" from the BIOS). Then, when that menu comes up, choose the option called "Disable automatic restart on system failure".
