Hi, I'm having some trouble with booting up windows and hoping I can get some insight...
...Today when I got home I started up my computer, logged in to windows, and noticed Kaspersky had expired, I was expecting this. So I close Kaspersky and went into the start menu to open it and load another license, and notice a program I had installed the previous night that was useless and I had planned to uninstall. So I uninstall the program, and during the process it alerts me to two files within C:/windows that will be deleted, but could be critical to other processes, I say no. As the uninstall finishes it prompts me to restart my computer, I did not want to but I mis-clicked. While windows is shutting off I become impatient and turn it off manually..When it starts up I get the "windows did not start correctly" screen with the five options. When I try to boot into any type of safe mode, the screen goes black as if to continue to windows, then windows restarts. The same happens with "start windows normally". When I choose "last known good config" windows gets as far as the Windows XP loading screen, which is unusually faint, then I get blue screen followed by restart.
I have no idea what is happening, I suspect the program I uninstalled "Paragon Hard Disk Manager" may have had effect.
Is my drive done for? Would it work to buy a new drive and install windows to it, boot the drive, and transfer the contents of C:/Documents and Settings from the old drive? Though I know hooking a faulty drive up next to a good one isn't recommended. I have a lot of media backed up on my external, but there was 20+ GB I had yet to back up.
And insight is welcomed, I am at a loss.
