just tried to install IE 7.0 on my Averatec A7115_EH1 running WinXP Pro SP2 and now it tells me the explorer.exe can't run because of a problem with normaliz.dll and that if I can reinstall the program it might correct the problem. However, because I have no desktop, just a plain blue screen, so no way to click on icons, I don't know how to do either a system restore or reinstall explorer.exe. I'd be happy to do either. The only thing I know to do is to is swab the hard drive and reload Windows and all the applications...which seems like overkill and I really really don't want to lose all my data. Can anyone lead me thru resolving the problem? Soln http://uberkuh.com/node/666 If you download Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 and have IE7 Beta 1 or 2, you will be asked to uninstall 1 or 2 before installing 3. Easy as 1, 2, 3, right? Wrong. You cannot uninstall the older IE7. You will notice that it remains installed and think nothing of it, because it's Microsoft. Unfortunately, when you restart, explorer will not. You will be notified of two missing files, Normaliz.dll and iertutil.dll. Don't freak out. Here's what you do: Open Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc). Find IE7 Beta 3 and run it. It will begin, but Windows will not validate. Leave the install open. Return to Task Manager and browse to the root of your C: drive. Click inside the strange folder with a long string of letters and numbers. Select the option to see All Files. Find iertutil.dll and copy it. Go to C:\\WINDOWS\system32 and paste. Go back. Find Normaliz.dll and copy it. Return to ..\system32 and paste again. Return to the IE7 Beta 3 setup and tell it to continue. This time, Windows will validate and IE will install. To get your damn desktop back, return to Task Manager and run explorer. |
