Default Windows Desktop SAearch error 0x0eedfade

I have recently installed Windows Desktop search from the Microsoft download site. I am running Windows XP SP2.

It seems to search OK but once or twice a day I get an error dialogue box:

WindowsSearchSafeFilter.exe - Application Error

The exception unknown software exeption (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b

Can anybody help resolve this?

Found one other web page referencing your error here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...68651&SiteID=1

A quotation from that page which is relevant:

I use Windows Desktop Search and recently starting getting an error message.
Details:
WindowsSafeSearchFilter.exe - Application Error
The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x7c812a5b
Followed by the error:
Runtime error 217 007F0EEE
What do these errors mean?

The answer according to Paul Nystrom:

See if this helps:

1. Check to see if you have any 3rd party Ifitlers installed (Bungle - you can obvisously skip this step). If you do, please uninstall them - especially if you have the Adobe .pdf IFilter (which is now automatically installed with the latest versions of Adobe Reader). This should stop the errors.

2. Please disable indexing of Microsoft Outlook. Then, shut down Outlook and restart. I would also advise shutting down and restarting WDS. If the error messages stop, you probably have an attachment in your email that is causing WDS to choke. If you can pinpoint the attachment (possibly an unusual file type) I would suggest deleting it - assuming it isn't needed. If not, you may need to turn off the indexing of attachments.

Let me know what you find.

Paul Nystrom - MSFT

The Adobe IFilter that the post is talking about is here:
