I am having the same issues found in Question 22060094.

While there appears to have been lots of helpful folks trying to help - I do not see an answer. And it is been set to PAQ. So I am either looking for a pointer to the PAQ or an actual answer.

A variety of things do not work after I had a Power Outage doing a chdsk on my ThinkPad running Windows CP Pro. These include:

1) Cannot drag icons on the desktop (They are not locked).
2) Running programs do not show up on task bar (the utilities at www.kellys-korner-xp.com with no luck).
3) System Restore will not work anymore (the service is not running)
4) I cannot copy and paste in Explorer or Firefox or IE
5) Cannot get to the properties in services. That is, I cannot chnage them to automatic, manual or disable. I have tried double clicking, right clicking and using the menu. This is EXACTLY the same problem as in 22060094.

I am sure there are several other issues as well. I suspect that I do not have the "right" services running but as I cannot turn them on or off at this point, I am stuck. I would also do a restore but as System restore will not come up (due to service not running?) I cannot go that route.

I have tried the solutions RichardRiga tried when he posted this. He had no luck and neither have I. I have done multiple virus and malware scans and do not think this is it.
