Hello, I am trying to create a workgroup where two computers can share folders/files. I plug them both into a swithbox and set there workgroups to the same name "WORKGROUP". I ran the workgroup wizard and I shared both root drives and a couple of folders. From one computer I can see the other shared computer in the Network Task pane, Workgroup. However when I attempt to connect to it i get the following message: \\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact administrator... The Network Path Was Not Found. When I click the "View Workgroup computers" link on the other computer it does not show the computer above that is in the same workgroup but I do get the following message: \\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact administrator... The Network Path Was Not Found. Can someone help me with this? I am currently working on a contract and need to resolve this quickly. Thanks. Solution ... also, it was mentioned earlier, but I should re-emphasize it: DISABLE any firewalls you have active on the two computers UNTIL you get the network working okay. A LOT of connection issues are because of incorrectly configured firewalls. AFTER you have the network working, you can re-enable the firewalls ... and if the problem re-occurs you'll know it's a simple firewall configuration issue. ... it's also not a bad idea to install SP2, although that by itself should not cause this issue [my network has original XP, XP SP1, XP SP2, and Windows 2000 PC's on it working together quite happily]. |
