We have a serious problem that is still to be rectified. Our xp systems while booting hangs at "Applying computer settings". It takes about 6-8 minutes to come from that "Applying computer settings" screen. Once it comes to the login screen the systems acts really fast. We have this problem only on some xp systems but not all the other xp systems.Those systems who are really slow to boot up have another problem, i.e. those systems cannot ping other machines by names, but can ping by ip address.

Also there is one more problem, this problem is on all our systems. We have about 2-3 domains and those domains comprises of windows 2000, xp systems and win98 systems. When we go to a domain and try to login to a system (it may be any system xp, 2k or 9x) it takes very long time to connect to it. But this does not happen when we try to connect to a system that is placed in WORKGROUP. It comes out very quickly.

We have checked out the DNS, there is nothing to be changed. It's been configured correctly.But the systems under workgroups boots up at normal speed but the same system when we goto a domain and tyr to connect to a system, it hangs for few minutes, then it asks for username and password. Any suggestions are welcomed... Regards and Thanks.

Most slow logons do point to DNS issues... Recheck your DNS, run Query tests... And you might want to run dcdiag and netdiag tests..
