Applies to: Windows XP Requirements Windows XP Author/Supplier Microsoft Description Late 2004 saw one of the first cases we've seen where Microsoft has released a patch aimed at stopping a specific adware problem. Microsoft's description: '[The TV Media] application prevents successful installation of Windows XP Service Packs, critical security updates and other system file updates. This update should be applied to your system to enable safe installation of these updates now and in the future.' The problem is most painful for XP SP2 users who will get a dreaded 'Stop: c0000135' and 'winsrv was not found' errors. In a nutshell the adware dubbed 'TvMedia.tvmbho' will cause XP updates to fail, in particular Windows XP SP2. A stop error is serious because Windows locks up, mostly at boot up. The TVMedia program is distributed in several free applications so it could easily sneak onto your system. What's most concerning is that something so important as updating Windows XP can be brought to a grinding halt with a single piece of adware.
