XP PRO connection issue

I just installed XP PRO on a laptop after slicking it down. I can't ping the router or anywhere else. I only have Windows Firewall on at this time. I've added the router IP to the intranet site in the Firewall. There are other machines running on the router and they detected and hooked up automatically. Any ideas how to get this straightened out?

Another one or two tools to detect hardware which I prefer for hardware detection over belarc are :

SIW :

SIW - System Information for Windows

Everest ( Home edition - unless you are on a domain then it will be ultimate edition )

For home edition :
|MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20

For Ultimate edition:

Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

Then go from there and download the relevant driver( Obviously )
