this has occured before and the only way i could fix it was to use a USB flash drive as a boot device and ghost the hard drive form an old image. i put in the xp cd hoping to use the recovery console but after briefly displaying thre message xp will now check your hadware (or something like that the screen then goes blank then nothingi can get round this issue by going into the BIOS and disabling my boot HDD then i can boot from the xp install CD and get to the recovery console i then do fixboot anf fixmbr. Needles to say this has zero effect xp still does not boot / start (yes i have re enabled the boot hdd in the bios first) I have changed / checked the RAM pluged and unpluged evry component on the pc that i can I do not think this is a hardware issue if it was ghosting an image back onto the drive would not work |

this is about the 7th time it has happend to me so i wanted to find the "correct" way of fixing it. instead of ghosting the whole time. i would also like to try and find out why it is happening ... i have been meaning to put a PE on a flash drive but havent got round to that either... ive just gone into the install and it dosent even offer me the reinstall option so am trying installing to a c:\windows2 folder and see if it will boot then all i will have to do is edit the boot.ini and this may end pleasantly |
