I can't for the life of me remember where in the registry windows stores its Incon to extension information.

Basically, I downloaded a new set of icons for files like .php, .asp, .cmd, .exe, etc and I want to replace the file locations in the registry so windows uses the new icons, and I can't seem to find them.

I know back in 200, all the icosn used to be in a directory like WINNT\system32\Web but they are gone now, I assume packed in a .dll somewhere?

Open REGEDIT in the Run dialog box off the Start Menu. Click on the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key. Then scroll down to each file extension, for example. .asp, and then get its other name, for example aspfile, from that key. Then find the corresponding other name (aspfile in this case) and look for the DefaultIcon key. You can edit that key to point to your new icon.
