database server can't be located

Question: We've installed The Paper Tiger Network Edition version 4.0 to our server and clients. However, when trying to run the program, each client gets the following message: "The Paper Tiger SQL database server cannot be located." Don't have a clue as to how to rectify this situation, as we've never encountered anything like this before. We haven't had an actual dedicated server for very long.

Did you install the SQL Server Desktop on the server machine?

I'm familiar with the software - is it scanning your network for the SQL server? must you type a server?

If you must type a server, some software (even big names) require the use of the a network path. (PeachTree Accounting does not support mapped drives via IP address - it returns "cannot locate server component on [first octet]"

Also, are any ports that the software uses restricted by firewall (XP native)?
