Last month at its TechEd event in Spain, Microsoft said it was on track to launch the first service pack for Office 2007 in early 2008. However, the company seems to being following its new under-promise, over-deliver strategy and Tuesday confirmed that the launch of SP1 has been moved up to next week.

Microsoft officials declined to speak about what’s in the pack, but said it will include performance, security and reliability enhancements. More information will be available on December 11 when Microsoft posts the pack on its website. In response to customers’ complaints, the software giant said SP1 won’t be pushed out to users via Windows’ Automatic Update mechanism.

Microsoft also plans to make the Vista SP1 Release Candidate 1 publicly available next week, on the same day of Office 2007 SP1’s roll-out.
