![]() The Nokia N93 is a 3G SmartPhone with outstanding photographic capabilities, a great music player and all the bells and whistles that you can imagine. But this comes at a price, and not just a monetary one - it's the biggest, heaviest phone ever made, excluding a small number of phones with PDA-like functions. The N93 has a twist-and-flip design that can be moved into 4 different positions: closed when not in use, folded open for talking, a camera mode and a viewing mode. It's a concept that works well and enables the outstanding photographic capabilities of the device to be used conveniently. The keypad is nice to use, with large clearly-defined keys, unlike some of the other Nseries SmartPhones. There's a small external screen that displays basic information, and a fantastic internal screen. The main screen is a slightly lower resolution than the N90, but at 2.4 inches it's physically larger than most Nseries phones, and gives excellent colour reproduction and good visibility in sunlight. There are dedicated keys for using the camera, including keys for the flash and zoom. Build quality is very high and physically the design of the N93 is superb, apart from the massive size and weight! The N93 has an outstanding camera, and it's worth listing the specs in detail: ![]()
The N93 also comes with a superb music player that supports a wide range of formats with high quality stereo output via headphones, with playlists and an equalizer. The supplied software is excellent - Nokia Music Manager handles one click CD ripping, converting and transferring music to your device - and Windows Media Player helps you to manage your PC music library. USB mass storage enables drag and drop functionality, and up to 2 Gbytes of storage is supported (a 128 Mbyte card is supplied). In addition to the media player, there's a built-in FM radio with support for Visual Radio. You can even use the Wi-Fi connection to play video, music and photos on a compatible TV, hifi or PC. Full connectivity is supported: Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 (with USB mass storage), Infrared, Wireless LAN (802.11 b/g) & TV-Out. 3G data transfer enables high-speed downloads of up to 384 kbps. A full web browser is included, and the email client handles various kinds of attachments. Really, the N93 is an incredible device with nothing missing - and this is it's problem. The end result is that it's both very expensive and very large - too big to put in a pocket - so it's obviously not going to be a mainstream phone. For power users who are willing to put up with the bulk, however, the N93 really can't be beaten. |
