Firefox 3 Quietly Works With Google
Firefox 3, codename Gran Paradiso, bundles several security features such as an antiphishing filter which is able to block all the websites which are identified as malicious. But who's the provider of this utility because there must be one since Mozilla is only focused on the browsing capabilities? Although you might think it is a security software company developing antiviruses and other similar tools, it isn't. It seems like the firm which supports the antiphishing filters is nobody else than the super giant Google. But Google doesn't have a standalone antiphishing solution which can be implemented into a browser. Not really, but it has the power of the best search engine which can analyze the pages and find out if they are dangerous or not. Moreover, the Google partnership with StopBadware can help Firefox to inform the users about the existence of any sort of dangerous content on the pages. Mozilla didn't say a thing about it but a Slashdot user found it and published an article on the page.
"Gran Paradiso includes a form of malware protection that checks every URL against a known list of sites. It does so by sending each URL to Google. In other words, if people enable this feature, they get some malware protection, and Google gets a wealth of information about which sites are popular (or, for that matter, which sites should be checked for malware). Fair deal? Not to worry — the feature is disabled by default," the story published by the user nicknamed 'iritant' states.
Obviously, this would be very useful for the search giant because it can find the most popular websites as well as the new dangerous pages which should be rated with its special notification displayed on the SERP. In case you have never seen them, Google flags all the dangerous pages with a 'Visiting this page might harm you computer' message powered by StopBadware.
