Cisco VPN Split Tunneling and Internet Speed

At home I can download at ~600 kb/sec.
At work I can download at ~400 kb/sec.

I'm currently at home running the Cisco VPN client. When enabled my max download speeds are at ~400 kb/sec, but when it is disabled it's at ~600kb/sec. I have split tunneling enabled so only my work IPs are encrypted. How come I can't download at 600 kb/sec then when I'm at home and have the VPN enabled? Am I missing something here about split tunneling or I'm possibly missing something in the VPN configuration?

Pretty much confirms suspicions, but I have no idea how to verify or how to change the behavior. I'll add this tidbit to the old inbox of the brain and if I run accross any difinitive information will certainly post back. In the meantime, maybe we'll get some real experts in here to get their opinions...
