There are a total of five computers, including the server/domain controller, that I need placed on the network. The server has two nic cards installed, one is connected to a router (Linksys WRT54GP2) and the other is connected to a switch which serves as the connection for the local area network. Ideally, what I'm trying to accomplish is as follows: 1) Enable users to login with their username/password from any computer on the network. 2) Stores users "profiles" on the server in a manner similar to the "roaming profiles" feature in Microsoft's Small Business Server. At the very least, I want to be able to have the users documents (/home) stored on the server so that they are available to them from any machine on the network. 3) The server will be assigned an Internet domain name (domainname.net) that will provide email services to users. The domain name will also be accessible via the Internet. Our Internet connection is cable, provided by Comcast, and as such, we are not given a static IP address. Thus, we subscribe to the Dynamic DNS services provided by dyndns.org for our domain name. 4) A single network printer is shared on the network. The printer is connected via an ethernet connection, which is connected to the switch. The printer will be shared for all network users. Now, I already now how to setup PHP, MySQL, Apache and the likes, so setting up the web services won't be an issue. I am having problems with getting the DynDNS service working, as well as getting the home network configured. I'm assuming that I need to install a DHCP-Server, but I've had little luck in this area. I need some help/advice on setting up the server for the local network, as well as details on how the clients/workstations need to be configured to connect to the network (preferably at startup) and read from the user accounts on the server. On our Window's network, we had to setup an internal domain name (domain.local) that served as our Intranet, and a Internet domain name (domainname.net) that was used for our email and Internet page. If someone could help walk me through the steps to get this working, as well as helping me figure out how to use the dyndns.org services (I have already installed ddclient), that would be a huge help. |
