Default NETBIOS over TCPIP setup

Probelm: Can not logon to "domain A" from "domain B" over TCPIP network.
Need a step-by-step MPTS setup procedure to get "NETBIOS over TCPIP" to work.

Default Re: NETBIOS over TCPIP setup

1. "DOMAIN " is the domain to which you wish to logon. "MACHINE "is the machine which is on the DOMAIN
2. Start MPTS and press OK and Configure until to get to the "Adapter and Protocol Configuration" screen. In the "Current Configuration" section you can see how you are configured. Your current MPTS will probably look something like this:
IBM Token-ring Adapter
0 - TCP/IP
0 - IBM OS/2 NETBIOS
3. In the "Protocols" window, select "IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP" and press "Add".
4. Your "Current Configuration" will now look something like this"
IBM Token-ring Adapter
0 - TCP/IP
0 - IBM OS/2 NETBIOS
0 - IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP
5. Select the "IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP" protocol in the "Current Configuration" section
and press the "Change Number" button.
6. Select "1" and press the "Change" button.
7. Your "Current Configuration" will now look something like this"
IBM Token-ring Adapter
0 - TCP/IP
0 - IBM OS/2 NETBIOS
1 - IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP
When you have both IBM OS/2 NETBIOS and also IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP protocols
configured on the same adapter, they must have different logical adapter numbers.
8. While still in MPTS, highlight the "IBM OS/2 NetBIOS over TCP/IP" protocol and select EDIT. The
"NetBIOS over TCP/IP" window should appear.
9. Select "Driver Parameters" and press the "Configure" button.
10. The driver parameters window will display, which is a list of fields and values.
a) "NODE TYPE" - For this test, we will use B-Node. If you do not have an option for this, then you
need to install an MPTS fixpak.
b) Make sure the following fields are blank (unused):
NetBIOS Name Server address
Backup NetBIOS Name Server address
Backup NetBIOS Datagram Distributor address
c) Scroll down until you see the line "Maximum number of name-ip address pairs in names file".
Make sure this is a non-zero number. You can put 10 in there for this test.
d) Make sure the following fields are blank (unused):
Enter NetBIOS Domain Scope String
Enter Local NetBIOSName Scope String
11. Press the OK button, which then returns you to the NetBIOS over TCP/IP panel.
12. Select "Names List" and press "Configure".
13. In this panel, you will enter information for my system. Press the "ADD" button. First enter my
Domain Name "DOMAIN" (in Capital letters) in the "NetBIOS name Prefix" field, and my IP
address "119.37.54.89" in the IP Address field. Press OK.
14. Press "ADD" again, and this time enter my NetBIOS machine name MACHINE1 and the same
IP address "119.37.54.89
15. Press "OK" to complete this, and then "OK" again to get back to the "NetBIOS over TCP/IP" panel.
By entering these names and IP address, we have created file RFCNAMES.LST which will be
placed in the \IBMCOM directory.
16. Select "Broadcast List" and press "Configure".
17. Press "ADD" to add an entry to the Broadcast list.
18. Enter my IP address (119.37.54.89) and press "OK". It is possible that this step is not actually required,
but we will do it anyway. This step creates file RFCBCST.LST in the \IBMCOM directory.
19. Press "OK" again and then "Close" so that you are back at the "Adapter and Protocol Configuration" panel.
20. Press "OK" to complete the MPTS configuration.
21. Close all windows and save all changes, allowing MPTS to update CONFIG.SYS.
22. The basic TCPBEUI configuration is now done. We now need to modify the File and Print
configuration file (IBMLAN.INI).
23. Edit file \IBMLAN\IBMLAN.INI. If you do not have this file, then you have not installed the File and
Print client program yet. You must have it installed.
24. Find the "Networks" section of the file. Normally this is near the top of the file.
25. There should be a "Net1" line. The Net1 line will probably refer to NETBEUI$.
26. Add a new line below the NET1 line. This line should look something like this:
Net2 = TCPBEUI$,1,LM10,109,100,14
Make sure there is NOT a semicolon at the beginning of the line. (; is a Comment).
27. You need to add the "net2" keyword in 2 other sections of this file. In the "Requester" section,
find the line that begins with "WRKNETS", and add ",net2" at the end of the line.
(It will now be: WRKNETS = Net1,Net2).
28. In the "Peer" section, find the line that begins with "SRVNETS", and add ",Net2" at the end of that line.
29. Save the changes and close the file.
30. Shutdown and reboot. If you get any errors during the reboot, please record them and let me know what they are.
31. After rebooting, start the Requester program. Type "NET START REQ".
32. Try to logon to my server. Type the following:
Logon /v:domain
This will bring up the logon panel.

33.Finally, You should have a userid and password for that domain !?!@$
