Default Workgroup is not accessible.

I am trying to add a laptop to a simple peer to peer network - all machines are Win XP Pro expect one, Win XP Home. This laptop is used at my other work location, on the same type of network setup, with no problem. I want to be able to move from one location to the other and use the network. Both stores have the same workgroup name but I am not able to get the other computers at location 2 to see the laptop, or it to see them. When I am at location 2 and click on My Network Places, I still see the local network items from location 1 on the laptop. When I choose View Workgroup I get the message "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admin... I have been thru the threads on your sight refering to this message and have not had success. I can ping the other computers IF I have turned off the Norton Internet Security on them. If I have not, I cannot. I have two computers I have physically removed NIS from as I try to resolve this. ANy thoughts? I dont want to mess up my other location network gettting this to work. There are six permenant computers at this location and all are networked and working fine - just cant get the laptop to show up...help

Default Re: Workgroup is not accessible.

I can map to the drives and access what is needed that way, but cannot use My network places or view workgroup computers. If anyone has other ideas to resolve issue, I would appreciate them.>>

If you can access the shares using UNC, and NOT using Network Places, then the problem is Netbios and Browsing... not any firewalls that are currently running (Norton)... Netbios Browsing is inherently an inefficient way to access shares, and not recommended by either MS or the Networking World...

Regardless, you might find my page on P2P file sharing helpful...

and for understanding Netbios:
