I need several shares to be available over our network to users on (XP Pro, XP Home, XP MCE) without prompting them for a password. Creating local user accounts on the server to use pass through authentication is not an option. I've already enabled the guest account and made sure the effective permissions to the share path are correct. It worked briefly and then I changed the computer name of the server and everything stopped working. Right now it's hit or miss, some computers automatically authenticate as guest and do not pop up the credential box, however, it seems that the XP Pro clients always prompt for credentials. Typing anything in the username field while leaving the password field blank allows the connection to the share to be established. Any ideas what I might be missing? |
