A high school student politely yet devastatingly takes me to task this morning for assuming in our review of “Eragon” that all admirers of the fantasy-sword novel are male “fanboys.” It hurts to get nailed so securely to the wall, but here it is: “Although I agree with much of your commentary on the writing, I enjoyed the book. However, what stuck out for me most in your column was your assumption that this was a movie for adolescent boys. You repeatedly use non-inclusive phrases such as ‘Fanboy,’ and the only role you see females in is the annoyed little sister. I know many, many teenage girls who love this book and will, no doubt, love this movie.” Touche to B.K. of Boulder, and I’ll keep it in mind next time.
