SCEA President Tretton Not Worried About PS3 Sales
The Sony Computer Entertainment America President Jack Tretton does not seem to be all that concerned with the PlayStation 3 and the slow sales which it has began with since it launched in North America back in November.
Tretton spoke to the LA Times and stated that the PS3 has sold 1.2 million units in this region alone. This is not all that great considering the Nintendo Wii has sold over 2 million and Microsoft is way higher with the Xbox 360.
Tretton is not worried though in the least bit stating that the PlayStation 3 is a much more long-term system than the competitors. He stated that "We didn’t get into PS3 for the first six months of 2007 - we’re into this for the next 10 years and beyond. A million units one way or another at this point isn’t going to worry us." (speaking in regards to Nintendo’s early lead with the Wii.) Tretton believes firmly that the PlayStation 3 is a 10 year system and that it is the definitive next-generation console.
Billy Pidgeon and IDC Analyst agreed with Tretton by stating that The PS3 is ahead of the market, while the Xbox 360 and the Wii were designed for immediate market impact."
Ahead of the market or not, it is good to see that the SCEA president is firmly behind his console for the long run.
