Sony has announced that Australia can expect to see the 60GB starter pack with a couple of Sixaxis controllers, Resistance and Motorstorm going for sale on August the 2nd for a rather hefty 999.95 Australian dollars (that’s about £429). I think on some levels, the Starter Pack makes sense. At the moment, if you’re going to get a PS3 then it’s likely that you’ll go for Resistance and Motorstorm, currently the two big exclusive titles for the system. Still, it was probably less than welcome news for those expecting a simple price cut on a standalone PS3. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see a unit price cut in the run-up to Christmas. When the software library expands, these starter packs are probably going to get less popular.
