Not every title shown at E3 can be a winner. And while these five high-profile games were by no means duds, they did raise some niggling doubts in our minds.
Halo 3 (Xbox 360) -- The long-awaited demonstration of the game's single-player mode looked really good, but it was simply so... Halo-esque. Can this game possibly live up to its hype?
Killzone 2 (PS3) -- The best visuals of any PS3 game to date, even if they don't match 2005's notorious CGI trailer. But nothing about the E3 demo suggested the gameplay goes beyond a plain vanilla first-person shooter.
Mercenaries 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) -- We're huge fans of the original, but this work-in-progress sequel frightened us a little with its choppy framerates and buggy visuals. Hopefully things will clean up as it gets closer to release.
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) -- We really want to love this final chapter in the Solid Snake saga. But as amazing as the game looked in its E3 trailer, we can't wrap our brains around its increasingly convoluted storylines and bizarre dialogue. Wii Fit (Wii) -- It would seem Nintendo can do no wrong, and the balance board is certainly a unique peripheral. But can it be incorporated into other games in a non-gimmicky way?
