Despite the ridiculous price of the Sony PS3 in Europe, Reeves comments on the lack of a price cut in an interview with ThreeSpeech. "July is not really a gamers' month unless you get a big, big title. So we thought if we reduced the price, we'd annoy a lot of people." Not satisfied with digging just a few shovel scoops into a hole, the Sony boss continues to further the dig, mentioning the ill state of the PS3 in Europe. "…we're actually not doing too badly, we're not selling as well as Wii or DS…" "…we also felt that [the PS3] wasn't doing that badly." "We're not putting our heads in the sand, we know it's not selling that well…" "We've tended to do these starter or value-added packs, and people have come out and said: You know, that's not bad." Never does he use the words "good" or "great" to describe the current state of the PS3 in any away. The whole interview indicates Sony doesn't believe now is the time for a price cut and we will see prices drop when the time is right, most likely the Holiday Season. Despite the lack of "good" or "great" PS3 sales in Europe, what Reeves never touches is the advantages of Sony gamers over non-Sony gamers. Against Nintendo, PS3 gamers get to know they didn't drop hundreds of dollars on a bookend. Against Microsoft, PS3 gamers get to know they've had the privilege of being financially manhandled by the one and only, Sony. |
