Speaking to
Game Informer at CES, Carmack described the Xbox 360 as his preferred platform of developing games compared to the PS3, citing superior development tools and support. Carmack did state that Id would continue to support both platforms, but the Xbox 360 will remain the company's preferred format.
Commenting on the internal architecture of the PS3, Carmack says, "I think the decision to use an asymmetric CPU by Sony was a wrong one. There are aspects that could make it a winning decision," Carmack continues, "but they're not helpful to the developers."
Carmack adds, "I've been pulling for Microsoft, because I think they've done a better job for development support, and I think they have made somewhat smarter decisions on the platform. It's not like the PlayStation 3 is a piece of junk or anything ... they just took a design decision that wasn't the best from a development standpoint."
