Earlier this week, we let you in on news that Sony received an
Emmy award for their innovative PS3 controller known as SixAxis. The award from The Academy of Television arts and Sciences seem to have been celebrated a bit premature. While the rest of us may have scratched our heads at the news of the SixAxis controller winning the award, Sony was quick to accept and make it publicly known to all journalists. Unfortunately, the message was misinterpreted in their haste.
It seems the Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering didn’t go to the PS3’s SixAxis controller but to the PS2’s Dual Shock Controller. Oops! Sony followed up to their award accepting press release with this apology:
"In a press release dated January 8, 2007, SCEA announced we had been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the SIXAXIS wireless controller. Due to miscommunication between the two organizations, this information was incorrectly reported. SCEA won a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the DUALSHOCK controller.
