The PS3 isn't just about playing games. As soon as Sony announced that each console would include their next-generation DVD format, Blu-ray, the PS3 was being positioned to help their entertainment and movies division. Each PS3 sold to gamers is another Blu-ray in a home. But to help their consumers go from video games to home theater, Sony packaged a Blu-ray copy of 'Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby' with each launch day PS3.
Now with Europe seeing their PS3 launch this March, the question is what will Sony be doing to convert these gamers to movie watchers? How about a copy of the latest Bond film, 'Casino Royale'. Sony Europe has announced that the first 500,000 gamers who register on their online Playstation Network will receive copy of the movie on Blu-ray.
“All this, and more, will enable users to experience a whole new world of interactive entertainment, and that is why we are offering the phenomenal incentive of Casino Royale, on Blu-ray disc, to PS3 owners who register on the Playstation Network. Casino Royale not only makes the most of the features and capabilities of the Blu-ray format, but is one of the most exciting and entertaining movies to debut on Blu-ray this year.”
Giving PS3 owners an incentive to register onto their online network could be an indication that Sony isn't getting the online user base they were hoping for, or that they are creating a bigger push to get their gamers online. Either way, playing games online seems like a small price to pay for a free copy of 'Casino Royale'. The film has already grossed more than $560 at the box office worldwide and you'll be able to see it for yourself in 1080p high-definition care of your new PS3.
