We've seen the violence, now behold the solution. We think. Friendly tipster Arthur S. bought a Wii on November 24th with a flimsy little Wiimote strap just like the rest of you fools, but when his mom, won over by the beauty of the tiny little Wii box, purchased her own on December 6th, Arthur was shocked to discover a new and improved string for connecting the strap to the Wiimote. She also purchased an additional controller, which had the flimsy, non Tyler-proof string. This would seem to imply that Nintendo is quietly improving the Wii straps as the consoles fly out of the factory, but since none of this is official, we only have blurry camphone pics (is there any other kind?) for proof of this change. Peep another after the break. I can personally confirm this story as well. I busted a Battery Cover not long ago because I was being stupid, and since the Straps were a buck each, I ordered a couple of those as well while I ordered a replacement cover, just got them today.
I'm not really an expert on strap materials, but it looks like the same kind of material as the old straps, just thicker. It's also harder to thread it because of this, and slightly shorter then the orginal wrist strap.
Since I got extras, I decided to stress test them myself. By which I mean, try to break them. Basically I hooked them to a handle and pull liked hell.
Took a fairly excessive amount of force, and I'm a brutish person with a tendacy of breaking things. The new one seemed to hold out longer, all though both required me to fully try and just break them. Also the thicker strap didn't appear to snap, but actually be pulled right out of the plastic cover, or it just broke there instead.
I'm going to play it safe anyways and just order some more replacement straps. Since these take up more space, there's less movement with the thicker strap, which means it might take longer to wear down.
