Default 'Heroes' gets a name change

According to the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Grasshopper Manufacture's first Wii title, up to this point known as Heroes, will now be called No More Heroes.

Famitsu also revealed first details regarding No More Heroes' scenario. Players assume the role of Travis Touchdown, a geek who wins a Beam Katana in an online auction and seeks a new career as a professional killer. Before long, Travis meets another assassin, Helter Skelter, and the two duel to the death - Skelter's death, more precisely. Soon Travis is approached by Silvia Christel, a supposed agent of an organization called the UAA, who awards him rank 11 status and suggests he go after the killers of higher rank.

Santa Destroy, a large city influenced by Western United States design, is the main location for No More Heroes. Though the story only progresses by facing and defeating the top 10 killers, Travis can roam freely - either on foot or using his Schpeltiger motor bike - taking on large and small missions to earn money and purchase new weapons. Players will also have the ability to dress Travis in over 100 different t-shirt designs, all of which endow him with some special ability.

No More Heroes will have players holding the Wii Remote in three different positions - upwards, downwards or centered - to determine Travis' fighting position. Pressing the A button repeatedly will issue standard sword swipes, while finishing moves require that the Wii Remote to be swung in accordance with on-screen prompts. In addition, shaking the controller will charge energy in the Beam Katana.

Aside from Helter Skelter, Famitsu revealed one other killer named Shinobu, a girl who attends the Santa Destroy high school, wields a powerful katana, and is ranked 8 by the UAA.

No More Heroes currently carries a Summer 2007 release date for Japan, and is expected to arrive in North America a few months afterward.
