xbox harddrive compatability

I bought a WD 160gb hard drive from ebay, now when I tried installing it on my pc the bios wouldnt detect it...
I searched online and found that there are programs to make the harddrive lock/unlock to the xbox specs. How would I go about checking that HD if its in working condition? and How do I bring it back to use with my PC?

Yep magnus got it right. Microsoft went to great legnths to make that drives firmware only work with xbox. There are hacks to unlock it but I cannot post that stuff here. Also possibilty of rendering the drive useless.
