How to Use Yahoo Mail's Free SMS Feature
Yahoo recently rolled out the new version of Yahoo Mail, a special flavor of the technology which was first released in September 2005. Since then, all the users were able to test it but the Sunnyvale company was finally prepared to officially publish the final version. Because it is built in AJAX, the new Yahoo Mail comes with lots of goodies for its users, including a SMS feature that enable all of them to send messages straight on a mobile phone. But don't get too excited because this special function is available only to the consumers from US, India, Canada and Philippines. However, it might be extended soon as the parent company upgrades all the Yahoo Mail accounts to the final version of the technology.SMS is the latest improvement to the integrated Yahoo! Messenger that’s available in the new Yahoo! Mail. We first told you about it in a February post when it was added to the Mail Beta. But now anyone who has a Yahoo! Mail account can get this new version that includes instant messaging and SMS," Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, sustained.
What you should know is that the SMS function is available only to the users of the final version of Yahoo Mail so, if you're still addicted to the classic flavor, you must switch to the latest version. All you need to do is click on Options / Mail Options and press the 'Try Now' button placed near the new Yahoo Mail announcement.
Moreover, the function does not work if you're not logged in into your in-mail Yahoo Messenger. As you probably know, Yahoo also implemented its instant messaging client into the interface of the mail technology so, in order to be able to send SMS messages, you have to be connected to Yahoo Messenger. After you connect to the chat application, a small arrow should appear near the 'Compose' button, allowing you to select the SMS option.
